My whataboutery as you put it was not because I don't recognise that there is an issue in Muslim countries over their mistreatment of women. There clearly is. You asked what these countries have in common...well clearly its that they have men in power that want to stay that way and the best way of doing that is not giving any rights to women. Conveniently they do this behind the cloak of religion.
It was implied however that I cannot be taken seriously in any kind of feminist thought unless I stated that Muslims should be singled out. Which as there are Muslim women, seems a bit odd.

I didn't say any of that. My comment to you was started by your whataboutery in regard to other religions (apart from Islam) which may or may not mistreat women. And Islamic countries still lead the way by a country mile on that front.
Why do so many people hate having to admit this fact?

Mashed so let me get this straight...I can only claim to be a feminist(not that I actually did) if I call out Muslim abuses of women's rights above everyone elses.
So we get those horrible Muslim countries to stop mistreating their women...and the rest of the abuses and ill-treatment stops does it?

You do realise that this "celebration" was started by the USSR don't you? It spread through the eastern bloc, and due to MASSIVE IMMIGRATION has become normalised here.
I don't mind it actually, my wife gets to choose either mothering sunday or IW day, only one.

Not in the same way as laws which forbid women from voting, driving, leaving the house without being dressed a certain way, going to school, and which punish them for having been raped, often physically, no.
Even in Chile where abortion is 100% illegal I'd bet the day to day life of your average woman is paradise compared to that of one in any of the 7 countries mentioned below.
